Tanto – High Carbon Steel Blade with Hanaguchi Base | Shimabushi Premium Edition
$621
【Overview】
This tanto combines a compact profile with traditional Japanese sword aesthetics. Featuring a distinctive Hanaguchi-style blade base and a raindrop-patterned saya, it delivers authentic craftsmanship and refined visual character in a manageable short-blade format.
【Blade & Craftsmanship】
The blade is hand-forged from high carbon steel using traditional forging techniques. A bo-hi (fuller) is incorporated to reduce weight and improve handling. Near the habaki, a decorative Hanaguchi-style finish adds a subtle yet distinctive visual accent, enhancing the blade’s traditional appearance.
【Design & Mountings】
The tsuba features an antique-style design, giving the tanto a classic, time-worn look that complements its traditional form without excessive ornamentation.
【Handle & Saya】
The saya is finished in a black raindrop lacquer pattern, offering scratch resistance and understated elegance. The handle core is made from natural hardwood and wrapped with cord to ensure a secure and comfortable grip.
【Performance】
The blade provides reliable sharpness and durability typical of high carbon steel. Its compact size allows for controlled handling, making it suitable for light cutting practice and display. (Please refer to the included test video for real cutting demonstrations.)
