Katana – Folded Damascus Steel Serpent Design | Yamata no Orochi
$827
【Overview】
Inspired by Japanese mythology, this katana embodies the legendary Yamata no Orochi, the mythical eight-headed serpent. Crafted from folded Damascus steel, it combines dramatic serpent-themed aesthetics with refined craftsmanship, making it a striking piece for collectors who value both symbolism and performance.
【Blade & Craftsmanship】
The blade is hand-forged from folded Damascus steel, created through repeated folding cycles to form rich, layered patterns throughout the blade. Traditional hand polishing reveals subtle gray wave-like textures, enhancing depth and visual complexity.
A bo-hi (fuller) is incorporated to improve balance and handling, while over thirteen stages of precision hand polishing complete the blade in accordance with traditional Longquan forging methods.
【Design & Mountings】
All fittings follow a unified serpent motif. The habaki and seppa are crafted from solid copper with engraved detailing, while the tsuba features a dark, python-inspired design in black and gray tones. Silver-toned snake-scale patterns decorate the handle fittings, reinforcing the sword’s mythological and commanding presence.
【Handle & Saya】
The scabbard is crafted from durable ipe hardwood and finished with an elaborate three-tone water-drop lacquer pattern, adding depth and visual movement. A thick, pure black sageo cord completes the refined yet powerful overall appearance.
【Performance】
This katana delivers exceptional sharpness, capable of cleanly cutting through water-filled bottles and tatami mats. It achieves a balanced harmony between visual artistry and functional cutting performance.
